Save the Dates....Tryouts for 2018

We are already planning for tryouts for the 2018 season. Please mark your calendar for March 19-23.  This is the week before Spring Break for Farmington Schools.  More details will follow once we get closer to those dates.

posted 8/9/2017

Tryout Bat Requirements

For FTBA tryouts on March 19-23rd, ALL participants must use a bat that has the new 2018 USA stamp (shown below) and meet the following approved MBL league bat restrictions:

9-U, 10-U, 11-U,
12-U, 13-U

Bats must be 2 1/4" with unlimited weight differential or bats 2 5/8" and have a -11 differential or less (i.e. 31” – 20.0 oz.)

Bats must be 2 5/8" with a -5 or less differential

Bats must be 2 5/8” with a -3 or less differential

In order to provide an equal tryout for everyone, bats that do not meet the foregoing requirements, which includes last year’s bats, will NOT be allowed at FTBA tryouts.  FTBA will provide a limited number of approved bats at tryouts for those participants that do not have a bat meeting the new 2018 requirements.

Hitting Clinics at DCTC

Farmington Travel Baseball is once again offering you the opportunity for free hitting sessions at DCTC this winter on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, starting this coming Wednesday, January 3 and ending on Sunday, March 18.

A DIBS session will be created each week (link on the FTBA website).  The slots for both players and coaches will be available every Monday morning.  Each player is allowed ONE time slot upon the opening of DIBS each week.  If availability remains for any of the Wednesday and Sunday time slots, a player may pick up another slot at 5 pm the night before the session.

30 slots will be available each of the following times:

6:00 - 7:00 pm

7:00 - 8:00 pm

8:00 - 9:00 pm

6:00 - 7:00 pm (9U and 10U only)

7:00 - 8:00 pm (9U, 10U, 11U only)

Please note, it is strongly encouraged that 9U and 10U players utilize Thursday nights and not sign up for the other nights.

5:00 - 6:00 pm

6:00 - 7:00 pm

As mentioned above, there will be DIBS slots for coaches as well.  Last year there was often a shortage of volunteers to help with the drills.  6 coaches will be needed for each session.  In order to be considered for coaching this coming year, a coach will need to fulfill at least 5 hours at DCTC.  The hours will be tracked through the DIBS system.

If you have any questions, please contact Rod Frost or Andy Gibart

DCTC Address: 1300 145th Street E., Rosemount, MN 55068

Participants will need their own bat and helmet and a completed FTBA waiver.  Please bring it to the first clinic they are registered for. The waiver will cover the full 10 weeks.

In the event you do not fill out the waiver, by electronically claiming a DIBs session for the DCTC Hitting Clinic, you as the parent represent that you have reviewed, agree, and agree as the player's parent or guardian to the terms of the Waiver provided on the Player Development tab of FTBA's website.

Pitching and Catching Clinics

Once again FTBA will be providing extremely cheap pitching and catching clinics on Friday nights this winter.

We have teamed up with the Cages in Burnsville to provide a 5 week training/clinic session in pitching and catching.   The Cages is a first-class facility paired with some of the most quality and reliable instructors around (led by Ty McDevitt current U of Minnesota Pitching Coach).

This is a great opportunity for current coaches and parents to get in depth knowledge around pitching and catching.   Coaches are encouraged to hang around and listen, film, ask questions to better serve your teams this summer.

Hurry as the sessions are filling up fast. The number of spots per time slot are limited.

Registration will close on Dec 20th.    We have designed the system such that kids can do both pitching and catching if they would like in the same night.   Each are $75 apiece.

Please see the flyers below for more information.

Any questions reach out to Rod Frost or 952-465-9096

NOTE::: The age you select is for the 2018 age group so if you played u11 baseball last year you would be selecting the u12 age group.

If after Dec 20th we still have spaces open we will open it up to older age groups.

The Registration "Farmington Traveling Baseball Association" is not currently available.

2018 Bat Rule Changes

What Happened at the Bat Meeting?
2018 Bat Rule Decision:
USA Baseball Regulated Bats

As promised, MBL/MBT conducted a meeting with the community Travel and Tournament Directors on 10/3/17 to get feedback, answer questions & address concerns in order to make the best decision regarding the bat rule & other issues.

A vote was held with our community representatives in attendance and with an overwhelming response, the outcome of the meeting was to move forward with allowing ONLY USA Baseball regulated bats during the upcoming 2018 MBL/MBT seasons. For the -3 bats, you will be able to use both the BBCOR and USA stamped bats.

These bats are hitting the market now and you can find a listing of approved bats and other FAQ's by clicking here:
